“BoUm”
The idea that we are able to grasp onto sound, or interpret a meaning behind a tune is fascinating. Within my creations, I interpret the emotional aspect of sound, rhythm, and chaos related to music. Music provides my only way of understanding emotions and connecting memories to feelings. A song, beat, instrument, can bring me back into an exact moment and feeling. My work embodies those feelings and times through imagery, textures, sound, movement, and space.
Using mixed media, like printmaking, ceramics, fabrics, metals, and woods, I showcase the abstractions of a moment and feeling. I employ foundry techniques and processes to create sand, rubber, and plaster molds for producing aluminum, iron, wax, plaster, and ceramic pieces. Printmaking techniques allow for the creation of multiples to use in three-dimensional assemblages and surface design. With my two-dimensional prints, the viewer can become a part of an imagined space. Combining techniques and textures creates a new sense of meaning through visual and physical texture.
My creative process is chaotic, late nights, lots of coffee, and countless materials laid out in front of me forcing me to create infinite concepts and ideas. It is a sporadic studio practice, but one that funnels into the chaos of emotion, music, and rhythm.
